Hernö Old Tom Gin is made from the same distilled gin as Hernö Gin and Hernö Navy Strength Gin except Hernö Old Tom Gin has an extra amount of Meadowsweet in the distillation and after diluting it down to 43% a touch of honey is added. The sweetening of Old Tom lifts the floral notes, releases an array of juniper and makes it even smoother.
Old Tom Gin origins from 18th century England. A black wooden cat placed outside pubs was used both to buy and serve the illegal beverage. According to the legend, when a penny was placed in the cat’s mouth the gin was served through a tube hidden in one of the paws.
A round and smooth London dry style gin, with juniper character, fresh citrus notes and a floral complexity. Hernö Gin uses eight botanicals, all certified organic: juniper, coriander, lemon peel, lingonberries, meadowsweet, black pepper, cassia bark and vanilla.
Tasting Notes:
Very pale, almost colourless. Nose is fruity, polished juniper with chocolate hints. Palate is 3D juniper with subtle wood, vivid but poised, both punchy and elegant
Nose: Full-bodied with woody spice. Followed by bright, juicy, juniper and floral notes.
Palate: Super-smooth texture with a light sweetness and botanical notes. An array of juniper, green and crispy, followed by notes of pine flowers.
Finish: A floral sweetness combined with woody spice and long lasting juniper.
Hernö Brenneri: Hernö hails from Angermanland, Sweden. Founded by Jon Hillgren in 2011, Hernö Brenneri is located in the village of Dala just outside the City of Härnösand in Ångermanland, on the east coast of Sweden. At the time it was Sweden’s first dedicated gin distillery and the world’s northernmost gin distillery. To stay true to its Swedish heritage, the distillery is built in a traditional Swedish manor in wood painted in red and white. British Airways’s in-flight magazine ‘Highlife’ describes it as the best distillery in the world to taste gin. Hernö Gin is the most awarded gin in Europe for the fourth year in a row. All Hernö gins are one-shot-gins, only diluted with water, from Hernö’s own well, and not chill-filtered.
